MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS’ MEETING OF April 6, 2023

A meeting of the Board of Directors was held in person in North Berwick, Maine on April 6, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. with all members attending except Ms. Mallett, Mr. Doiron and Ms. Neubert.
The vice chair read the public input statement
Public Input: None at this time.
The board reviewed the minutes from March 30, 2023. Ms. Lovejoy made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Travers to approve the minutes as amended. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
Student Report: None this evening
North Berwick Elementary School Odyssey of the Mind Team: The North Berwick Elementary School Oliver and Arabella represented the Odyssey of the Mind Team shared their first place win. This is the First OM team in at least five years and Ms. Tristan White was the coach. The play was about The Walls of Troy and the students created their own play.
Quebec Trip with Sofie Larsen: Ms. Larsen shared the French Club's trip to Quebec in March. It was a remarkable trip and the overview can be viewed here
FY22 Audit Presentation: Ms. Jennifer Connors, of Runyon Kersteen Ouellette, our audit firm, shared with the board that the audit in all aspects was without fault, a clean audit. There were no weaknesses or deficiencies found in any areas in the regular funds and in the special programs tested. A huge thank you to our business manager and financial staff in maintaining such a high level of expertise.
Financial Summary March: March 2023
Vote to Call and Approve the Warrants for the Budget Meeting and the Validation Referendum and to Authorize the Notice of Amounts Adopted:
Ms. Janousek read the motion
and it was seconded by Ms. Lovejoy to approve the Vote to Call and Approve the Warrants for the Budget Meeting and the Validation Referendum and to Authorize the Notice of Amounts Adopted. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
Employment:
LOA 2023-24:
Jessica Silberman- NMS ELA grade 7. Ms. Hagenbuch made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Janousek to approve the LOA of Jessica Silberman. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
Retirement:
Susie Leclair- VEH Guidance Counselor- 34 years with MSAD 60 and 45 years in education!
Ms. Lovejoy made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Janousek to approve the retirement of Susie Leclair and thank her for her many years of service in the district.. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
Eileen Sahagian Excel Teacher ELKS- 16 years with MSAD 60, 32 years in education!
Ms. Lovejoy made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Janousek to approve the retirement of Eileen Sahagian with many thanks for her many years of service. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
Lisa Valhos Excel Teacher Lebanon Elementary Schools- 10 years with MSAD 60, 20 years in education! Ms. Lovejoy made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Janousek to approve the retirement of Lisa Valhos with thanks for her years of service. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
Resignation:
Erin Johnston- VEH Kindergarten Teacher, Ms. Lovejoy made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Travers to approve the resignation of Erin Johnston. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
Casey Powden- VEH Grade 2 Teacher. Ms. Lovejoy made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Travers to approve the resignation of Casey Powden. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
Nomination of Probationary Administration
Ms. Lovejoy made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Hagenbuch to approve the the nominations of probationary administrators. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
Other:
Ms. Janousek shared with the board that the Noble’s Got Talent show was absolutely wonderful!
Ms. Janousek shared a question from a parent regarding school resource officers at the other schools other than the middle school and the high school. This is something that we are seriously examining.
Ms. Whalen shared with members that she is interested in how we can keep the district website more up to date. It is noted that this is one of those very difficult pieces of keeping the many areas of information up to speed.
Ms. Janousek made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Lovejoy to go into executive session for Executive Session Pursuant to 1M.R.S.A. §405(A) Investigation of Complaints against a person or persons. All members voted in favor and the motion passed. In at 7:43 pm. Out at 7:53pm.
Ms. Janousek made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Lovejoy to adjourn the meeting. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
