MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS’ MEETING OF June 4, 2026
Current Board Members-
North Berwick- Lauren Janousek, Kate Whalen, Richard DeCato

Lebanon- Nancy Sewell, Jeridene Basko, Melissa Cyr

Executive Session 1 M.R.S.A. §405(6)(A) Evaluation of Officials/Appointees/Employees:
Ms. Janousek made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Cyr to go into executive session pursuant to Executive Session 1 MRSA 405§(6)(A) Evaluation of Officials/Appointees/Employees. All members voted in favor and the motion passed. In at 6:02 pm. Out at 7 pm.
A meeting of the Board of Directors was held in person at Noble Middle and High School on June 4, 2026 at 7:00 pm with all members attending in person except Ms. Tasker and Ms. Basko.
There were 12 in the audience.

Ms. Wheeler read the public input statement.
Public Input:
The following people spoke in public input in the first session:
Mr. Jon Hall spoke on behalf of the MSAD 60 Teacher’s Association.
Minutes:
Ms. Lauren Janousek made the motion and it was seconded to table the minutes until June 11th. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
Teaching and Learning Update: English Language Arts (ELA) Review
Dr. Shannon Swiger gave an overview of the ELA review. Board/ELA.pdf .
Ms. Wheeler made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Cyr to approve Magnetic Letters and Arts and Letters for the 26/27 school year. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
Elementary and Secondary Education Act Update
Dr. Shannon Swiger gave an update regarding the ESEA grant for the 26/27 school year.
Ms. Wheeler made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Sewell. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
Second Policies
Policy EBBD- Temperature Guidelines for Schools
Ms. Herlihy made the motion and it was seconded by Ms.Cyr to approve EBBD as amended. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
Policy JICJ-Cell Phones and Other Personal Electronic Devices in Schools
Considered to be a second reading, but going back to the committee for review.
Superintendent’s Summer Higher: Ms Wheeler made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Cyr to approve the Superintendent’s ability to hire without board approval between June 12th and August 28th. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
Nomination of Probationary Administrators
Probationary 1 to Probationary 2: Ms.Janousek made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Wheeler to approve the nomination of the presented probationary 1 to probationary 2 administrators. All members voted in favor except Ms. Sewell and the motion passed.
Probationary 2 to Continuing Contract: Ms. Wheeler made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Herlihy to approve the nomination of the presented probationary 2 to continuing contract administrators. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
Employment:
New Hire:
Danielle Collins-NBES/ELKS Music Teacher and has her Post Graduate Certificate from University of Hartford and University of Maine. Ms. Wheeler made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Janousek to approve Ms. Collins. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
Belen Vazquez Caamano- NMHS World Language Teacher (Spanish and French), Masters of Arts Linguistics from National University of Distance Education Spain. Ms. Wheeler made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Herlihy to approve Ms. Vazquez Caamano. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
Riley Champagne- NIS Grade 6 Social Studies/ Science Teacher, Masters of Education from University of Massachusetts Lowell. Ms. Wheeler made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Cyr to approve Ms. Champagne. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
Abigail LbBlanc- NIS Grade 6 Math Teacher, Masters of Education from University of Massachusetts Lowell. Ms. Wheeler made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Cyr to approve Ms. Leblanc. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
Lindsay Goldstein- NBES Behavior Interventionist, Masters of Education from Cambridge College, Massachusetts. Ms. Wheeler made the motion and it was seconded by Mr. Decato to approve Ms. Goldstein. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
Resignation:
Morgan Lynch- NMHS World Language Teacher (Spanish and Russian). Mr. Herlihy made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Cyr to accept the resignation of Mr. Lynch with regret at the end of the 2025-26 school year. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
Kella Psillas- NMHS World Language Teacher (Spanish and Russian). Ms. Wheeler made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Cyr to accept the resignation of Ms. Psillas with regret at the end of the 2025-26 school year. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
Sarah Balestron- NMHS World Language Teacher (Spanish and Russian). Ms. Cyr made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Wheeler to accept the resignation of Ms. Balestron with regret at the end of the 2025-26 school year. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
Superintendent Update:
Pathways to Success; Convocation was this evening and Graduation is tomorrow evening
June 12th is the last student day.
June 9th is the budget referendum
June 11th is another board meeting
Other:
Ms. Herlihy asked about resignations and exit interviews.
Ms. Janousek asked for specific concerns identified in the exit interviews.
Mr. Decato asked about the deed of the Mary Hurd Academy.
Ms. Sewell asked about the SRRF funds for the NIS.
Ms. Herlihy asked about the sharing of expenses of the Town Library in Lebanon
