MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS’ MEETING October 17, 2019
A meeting of the Board of Directors was held at Noble High School in North Berwick, Maine on October 17, 2019 at 6:30 pm, with all members present except Mr. Doiron, Ms. Beal and Ms. Hopper.
Ms. Potter made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Neubert to enter into executive session pursuant to 1MRSA 406(D), Contract Negotiations. All members voted in favor and the motion passed. In at 6:33 pm. Out at 7:03 pm.
Ms. Beal entered the meeting at 6:40 pm.
Ms. Mallett, Berwick board member, shared the explanatory statements regarding public input.
Public Input; None.
Ms. Neubert made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Corliss to accept the minutes of October 17th as amended. All members voted in favor except Ms. Beal and Ms. Mallett who abstained, and the motion passed.
The Superintendent then presented Shannon Swiger to the board as the candidate for The Director of Teaching and Learning for the district. He gave an overview of her qualifications and gave the board an opportunity to ask questions. Ms. Beal made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Corliss to accept the hire of Dr. Shannon Swiger as the new Director of Teaching and Learning. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
Mr. Tim Lounsbury, guidance counselor at Noble High School, shared with the board an overview of the sabbatical that he undertook last semester. He shared with the board a variety of programs that he was able to visit and reflect upon. The board was appreciative of his work. He is asking for the board to allow him to focus on spreading the word about the ability to use 211 in our school system. The board was supportive.
The board then reviewed the updated financial statement through September 2019.
The Superintendent then updated the board on the Emergency Management work that we are doing with the York County.

Policy Second Reading
KF(nr)- Community Use of School Facilities: Ms. Potter made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Neubert to approve policy KF as presented. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
KF-A(nr)- Facilities Use Fee Schedule and Contract: Ms. Potter made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Corliss to approve policy KF-A as presented. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
KF-E1(nr)- Facilities Use Form Ms. Potter made the motion and it was seconded by Ms.Neubert to approve policy KF-E1 and KF-E2(nr)- Hussey Auditorium Event Requirements as presented. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
JICH-R(nr)-Student Substance Abuse Administrative Procedure: Ms. Potter made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Beal to approve policy JICH-R as amended. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
JLCDA- Medical Marijuana In Schools Ms. Potter made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Neubert to approve policy JLCDA as presented. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
The Superintendent shared with the board a few photos of The VE Hussey kids with the Berwick Fire Department who were sharing Fire Safety information. Our very own Travis Doiron was captured on film.
The Superintendent shared with the board a teacher appreciation event held by the Noble Varsity Field Hockey Team. The players asked a teacher who had a major influence on them in school to join them on the field. It was very touching.
Ms. Neubert made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Beal to adjourn. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
