MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS’ MEETING OF December 1, 2022

Current Board Members-

North Berwick- Lauren Janousek, Kate Whalen, Lynn Manley

Berwick- Travis Doiron, Elva Lovejoy, Denise Mallett

Lebanon- Victoria Travers, Stephanie Hagenbuch, Nancy Neubert

Student Representative- Echo Balistreri

A meeting of the Board of Directors was held in person in North Berwick, Maine on December 1, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. with all members attending except Ms. Neubert. Ms. Hagenbuch, Ms. Mallett, Mr. Doiron and Ms. Whalen were remote. 4 in the audience.


The vice chair shared the public input statement.


Public Input: None


Ms. Janousek made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Manley to approve the minutes of November 17 as amended. All members voted in favor except Ms. Mallett and Ms. Travers, who abstained, and the motion passed.


Student Report: Ms. Echo Balistreri, student board representative, shared with the board the student report:


The first round of the second annual (student led) Noble Knows Quiz Show began today, with more competitors tomorrow and next week followed with semifinals and finals the week after.

Grades close for the last time before the semester ends tomorrow.


Senator Joe Rafferty and Representative Tiffany Roberts had to postpone their visit to the board due to a scheduling conflict in Augusta. They are hoping to participate on Dec. 15th.


The Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent gave an overview of the HVAC project that is currently being developed. The presentation that was given to our Facilities and Finance committee earlier today was also shared with the rest of the board members. The board will be voting regarding moving forward on the project on Dec. 15th.



Educational Update:

Student attendance ranged from 91 to 96 % present over the last two weeks. Staff attendance ranged from full attendance to 3 out per day for illness.


Athletics is getting under way. More information regarding winter sports will be forthcoming.


Noble High School theater presented “The Prom” last week and it was very successful. Excellent job!


Employment Update:

None



Other Business:


We discussed the option of having Echo, as a student representative, to be able to vote. The Superintendent is looking at policies and will engage the policy committee in reviewing these options.


The board was presented with a donation of $2000 towards the Civil Rights Team at NHS in honor of Rebecca Eddows, a 2012 graduate. Ms. Manley made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Janousek to accept the donation with gratitude. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.


Strategic Plan overview… The Assistant Superintendent shared with the board a timeline for the strategic planning work that will be undertaken after the new year. We are looking at a 5-7 year plan potentially taking us into the year 2030. She asked the board to be thinking about the various constituents within the community and potential representatives for a large meeting on January 28th.


Ms. Whalen asked about having our Noble 4 All team present an update to the board at a future meeting.


Ms. Travers made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Janousek to adjourn the meeting. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
