MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS’ MEETING OF January 5, 2023


Current Board Members-

North Berwick- Lauren Janousek, Kate Whalen, Lynn Manley

Berwick- Travis Doiron, Elva Lovejoy, Denise Mallett

Lebanon- Victoria Travers, Stephanie Hagenbuch, Nancy Neubert

Student Representative- Echo Balistreri

A meeting of the Board of Directors was held in person in North Berwick, Maine on January 5, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. with all members attending except Ms. Mallett. Ms. Travers, Mr. Doiron and Ms. Whalen were remote. There was 1 in the audience.


The vice chair shared the public input statement.


Public Input: None


Ms. Hagenbuch made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Neubert to approve the minutes of December 15, 2022. All members voted in favor except Ms. Neubert, who abstained, and the motion passed.


Student Report: Ms. Echo Balistreri, student board representative, shared with the board the student report:


It’s a bit of a stressful time for students as studying for the fastly approaching finals has begun.


The final for the “Noble Knows” Quiz show is scheduled for next Tuesday, the winning team will receive a prize bin and every team will be awarded participation awards.


The outing club had a very successful hike up Mt. Moosilauke on New Year's day! It was filled with frozen hair, laughs and snow.


Superintendent update: Due to the major storm and high winds on December 22 there was roof damage at Noble High School. No damage in the school but the roof membrane blew right off. It has been handled on an emergency basis. Insurance will cover the damages but it will not be until spring that the roof damage is permanently fixed.


Educational Update:

Student attendance ranged from 91% to 98 % present over the last two weeks. Staff attendance ranged from one person out per day up to four out for illness.


The Superintendent shared with the board a donation of $2000 from Omni towards the MSAD 60 Backpack program. Ms. Neubert made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Janousek to accept the $2000 donation from Omni Corporation with gratitude. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.



Athletics update:


Our League of Legends Esports team won the 2022 Maine State Championship and our Rocket League team finished in 2nd place in the 2022 Maine State Championships!


We are almost halfway through the winter season!


Boys Basketball is off to a great start. They are 3-3 on the season and currently sitting in third place in Heal Points!


Wrestling hosted the 39th Annual Noble Invitational and finished third in team points out of 37 teams that were in attendance. We ran 32 man brackets and this was one of the largest tournaments we’ve run.


Boys Ice Hockey is 2-2 and Girls Ice Hockey Co-Op with York is 5-2!


Indoor Track has competed in a few meets this year with the Girls winning one of their meets and the boys finishing in 2nd.


Unified Basketball just started and the KnightHawks host their first home game on Friday, January 20th at Marshwood!


Employment Update:


The Superintendent brought forward the name of Samantha Metzler for the 2nd grade position at the Hussey School. Ms. Hagenbuch made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Neubert to approve Ms. Metzler as a second grade teacher at the Hussey School. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.


Other Business:


Ms. Hagenbuch shared an idea of a program to encourage students to enter into the field of education. She shared her experience as a former Noble High School student with the internship program and asked if we could potentially re-establish this program with a specific focus on education. The Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent shared that we are currently talking with Americorp about a similar program but that we agree the internship program would be beneficial to potentially re-establish. More to come on that idea.


Ms. Lovejoy made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Janousek to go into executive session pursuant to 1 405(6)(A) evaluation of employee. All members voted in favor and the motion passed. In at 7:25 pm. Out at 8:01 pm.


Ms. Neubert made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Hagenbuch to adjourn the meeting. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
